When idling or waiting, people tend to repeat a certain movement such as shaking legs or playing with their fingers to entertain and distract from the dullness. Therefore, imagine an environment of a silence subway train, if we can attach sound to each of the movement that every passengers does when waiting for the destination stop, it would form a random but intriguing sound string. Based on this idea, we made this instrument that attaches to the joints, which can make different sound according to the amplitude of the vibration that generates from the “idling” movements.
We were fortune to be guided and advised by the French digital artist Antonin Fourneau and Chengliang Wang, and we were also amazed by the power of Processing and Arduino. Since this project, I developed a strong interests in interactive design and digital arts.
